The Event

Darwin International Virtual Trade Show 2022 is a two-day online program hosted by City of Darwin, Australia on 22 and 23 June 2022. It aims to encourage businesses and organisations from Darwin and its Sister and Friendship Cities to create relationships and opportunities worldwide.

The two day live session will include online presentations and workshops with some of the topics covering, for example, Mayoral presentations, tourism, education, migration, business, and investment. The business and organisations (exhibitors) from the Darwin municipality and our Sister and Friendship Cities are invited to setup their virtual booth on the event dates. This allows businesses to connect and explore opportunities with sister and friendship cities.

The Trade Show will be free for public participants from Ambon, Anchorage, Dili, Haikou, Kalymnos, Shenzhen, Milikapiti, Denpasar, Guangzhou, Honolulu, Qingdao, and Santa Cruz.

The Hon. Kon Vatskalis

The Lord Mayor has been a resident of Darwin for 37 years, originally arriving to manage the Northern Territory's Environmental Health Office. The Lord Mayor has overseen many important decisions by the council over the past 3 years including improving processes and procedures, increasing council expenditure with local businesses from 80 percent to 95 percent, and a beautification program that will make the city a much more attractive place.
Mr Vatskalis was a Member of the Legislative Assembly from 2001-2014 and was a Cabinet Minister for 12 of those 13 years. He served as Minister of Health, widely recognised as one of the toughest jobs in Government, and Minister of Primary Industry and Minister of Child Protection.

Previously he has been both a member and Chairman of the Commission in the House of Representatives of Denparsar City. I.G Ngurah Jaya Negara S.E has been a public servant, serving the City of Denpasar for over 28 years. Before he entry into the House of Representatives he worked for the Utama Bank for 6 years. The Mayor of Denpasar also sits on the board of a number of sporting, religious and political organisations.

Angel Amable Yanez Vinueza

The Mayor of the Santa Cruz, Angel Amable Yanez Vinueza , has work and personal experience that allows him to be a leader with different approaches that makes it possible to reach different groups in the community. He was a Representative of the Santa Cruz Surf Club, part of the Ecuadorian Surfing Federation, and President of the Santa Cruz Cantonal Soccer League. His academic training allows him to make crucial decisions for the island. He is a Banking and Finance Engineer with a Diploma in Social Balance and Popular and Solidarity Economy of the Cooperative Sector, the Manager of the Development Bank in Santa Cruz as well as Councilor and Deputy of the Galapagos Province. He has 3 children who are their greatest pride, but without a doubt, his wife, Patty Guerrero, is the most important support in the social axis, the first lady of Santa Cruz heads the Volunteering that bears her name.
Angel Yanez Vinueza, seeks in his time as mayor, to make the community aware of the paradise where we live, to take care of it, love it and promote it so that everyone knows and loves our Land of Encounters.

Gulfan Afero

Consul
Republic of Indoneisa to the Northern Territory in Darwin

Mr Gulfan Afero is the Consul of the Republic of Indonesia to the Northern Territory in Darwin. In 1991 he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the Republic of Indonesia. He had been assigned in several Indonesian Missions such as in the Indonesian Consulate General in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (1997-2000) as Vice Consul; Indonesian Embassy in Doha, State of Qatar (2003-2007) as Counselor for Consular Affairs; Indonesian Embassy in Rome, Italy (2010-2013) as Minister Counselor for Political Affairs; and Indonesian Embassy in London (2017- 2020) where he served as Minister Counselor for Protocol and Consular Affairs. Prior to his assignment in MOFA, Mr Gulfan Afero completed his study in Faculty of Law, Indonesian Christian University, Jakarta, majoring in International Law in 1987 and graduated from the Postgraduate Program of University of Indonesia majoring in American Studies in 1997.

Dr Richard Fejo

Dr Richard Fejo is a Larrakia Man from Darwin from his father, his grandfather and his great grandfather in what culture calls Grandfather Lore. Richard is also Warumungu from Tennant Creek on his mother's side. He holds a significant amount of cultural knowledge and experiences from both northern and central Australia across the Northern Territory. He is the Flinders University Elders on campus in Darwin, Chairman of the Board at the Darwin Waterfront Corporation and Chair of the Australia Day Council of Northern Territory.

Paul Burke

Paul has extensive experience in the agricultural sector, working in government and non government roles advocating and supporting the agricultural sector. He worked in AgForce Queensland as the State Operations Manager and was the Chief Executive Officer for NT Cattlemen's Association. Prior to becoming CEO of NT Farmers in 2019, he was the Director of Infrastructure Assets and Major Projects for the NT Government Department of Primary Industries and Resources.
Paul started his career in hospitality working across the world including in the United Kingdom, Europe, Turkey, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. Working in a wide variety of roles and in different locations gave him the skills to understand and connect with people from all cultures and backgrounds. These skills and experiences have enabled him to make a significant contribution to NT Farmers and the NT agricultural sector.

Daryl Guppy

Daryl Guppy is a national board member of the Australia China Business Council which provides advice to Australian government at high levels on commercial and political cooperation with China.
Guppy has worked with the Chief Ministers' Department of the Northern Territory and with other senior NT Ministers on China matters. Guppy is an invited speaker at ASEAN and APEC conferences in China. Guppy has spoken on One Belt One Road policies in China, Singapore and Australia. Guppy is the Australian representative on the Silk Road Chambers of International Commerce.
He is a columnist for China's CGTN TV and CGTN Digital, Business Times Singapore, TheEdge financial weekly, Singapore, South China Morning Post and writes for other international media.
Guppy is an international investment master and has nine popular books published by John Wiley. He is a regular host anchor on American international CNBC Asia Squawkbox providing analysis and comment for financial market where he is known as the Chartman.

Stephen Cook

Mr. Stephen Cook is a Senior Research Scientist working in Sustainability Pathways Program within Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), which is Australia's national science agency. Stephen is an environmental scientist with more than 15 years' experience and has been involved in the delivery of a range of research projects, which have included: incorporating environmental externalities in the evaluation of demand management programs, triple-bottom line assessment of water servicing options, identifying impediments to the greater uptake of water sensitive urban design, adapting water services to the likely impacts of climate change, and modelling the uptake of low carbon transport modes. Stephen is the coordinator of the Darwin Living Lab.

Jean Vezina

A Civil Engineer from Canada, Jean has 25 years of international construction experience with aid organisations and the private sector.
He came to Timor in 1999 as part of a Médecins Sans Frontières emergency team, remaining in the country after leaving the emergency team in 2000 to contribute as a private contractor to the emergent nation's re-construction effort.
Together with his counterpart Sheilla, Jean has been central to Caltech's two decades of growth and diversification. His role in the contracting and construction arms of the business developed his oil and gas sector knowledge and he continues to diversify Caltech's onshore and offshore offerings, as well as embed Caltech more firmly into the sector's supply chains. A champion of sustainability and innovation, Jean plays the lead role in growing Caltech's environmental services portfolio.

Born and raised in Timor-Leste, Sheilla has been an entrepreneur for more than 20 years following a stint in administration with Médecins Sans Frontières and the UNDP in Timor-Leste.
Sheila played a central role in diversifying Caltech's business interests from its early days as a Project Management entity. She has been heavily involved in the contracting and construction aspects of the Group, as well as its tourism, hospitality and catering ventures. Sheila is also the General Manager of several Caltech businesses.

DR. ADIBI RAHIMAN BIN MD NOR

Dr Adibi is a marine biologist and aquaculturist by training, with 20 years of experience in the fisheries sector.
His work focuses on the fisheries policy particularly, the sustainability of seaweed commercialisation among Malaysian coastal communities and the impact of this activity on their livelihoods. He was an employee of the Department of Fisheries (DOF) and now is a senior lecturer and PhD programme coordinator at the Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS).
Dr Adibi was involved with the development of national seaweed policy - in particular, to implement, monitor and evaluate this policy. Dr Adibi has also developed an in-depth knowledge of various fisheries management themes: sustainable development strategies, governance, aquaculture management, community development, public policy analysis, case studies, developing countries, economic development, social studies, community organisation, and research methodologies.
This breadth of experience has shaped his insights into the flow of using scientific evidence in the policy-making process.
He has published widely on seaweed/fisheries research related to policy, biology, and value chain aspects. He was appointed as a reviewer for Journal of Applied Phycology, Journal of Socioeconomics and Development and Botanica Marina in 2021, 2020 and 2019. He is also a consultant for an international seaweed project and a scientific advisor and business development planner for the local aquaculture company. He is passionate about making aquaculture development sustainable and equitable for the local community and the environment.

Greg McCallum

Greg McCallum is a former School Deputy Principal and Rugby League referee who is currently International Links & Sister Cities Co-ordinator at Blacktown City Council and Executive of Sister City Australia.
Greg brings a vast educational, sporting and cultural perspective to the long-established Sister Cities program for Blacktown City and its relationships with Suseong-Gu (Korea), Liaocheng (China), Porirua (New Zealand), Liverpool Plains (NSW) and the League of Cities (Philippines). Greg understands the high-level protocols that exist within these relationships.
Having worked and lived in England for 7 years within a peak sporting body and travelled throughout much of Europe, Greg has a broad but also a deep appreciation of cultural diversity and community and a strong business connection.
Greg was appointed to the Executive Committee of Sister Cities Australia earlier this year. Greg is also an experienced Civil Marriage Celebrant and MC.

Sarah Andrews has worked for Hospitality NT (formerly AHA NT Branch) for more than a decade in a variety of roles. Sarah has focused on workforce development for many years, including worker attraction campaigns, staff retention programs, paddock to plate connections and more. Sarah also assists businesses with liquor regulation, including assisting with applications, material alterations and variations. Sarah is passionate about promoting the Territory's hospitality industry and the amazing staff that work day in day out in creating positive experiences for locals and visitors to the NT.

Spiff Chambers

Tourism Sales Manager

Spiff was born and raised in the Midwestern states, and drove up to Alaska in the summer of 2001, following a girl. In the 20+ years he has lived in Alaska, Spiff has spent nearly all that time working in the Alaska Tourism industry. He’s worked as a bartender, motor coach driver / guide, reservation agent and operations manager for a small tour company before joining the team at Visit Anchorage, where he’s been employed since 2014. In his free time, you can find Spiff chasing silver salmon, hiking or biking Alaska’s great trails, or attending summer music festivals all over South Central Alaska.
